Common energy saving tips include the following:
- Clean your HVAC system. Whenever your air conditioner or heater isn’t performing at peak efficiency, it can result in using more power and correlates to more money being spent.
- Ensure that there are no leaks throughout your home. When air leaks are present in your home, your air conditioning and heating systems are working harder to either cool or heat your entire home, leading to a high energy bill. Check your doors, windows, and even ductwork to confirm if any leaks are evident, then make sure you seal them.
- Monitor your electronics. If you’re not using a particular device or appliance, like your television or video game console, just unplug them. You must know that these electronics can still draw power, despite the fact that they are off and not currently in use.
- Install a programmable thermostat. To make sure that no energy is wasted throughout the day, having a programmable thermostat enable you to set specified temperatures whenever you’re home or not.
- Use LED light bulbs. LED lights take significantly less energy to use and have a lifespan about 40 times longer than incandescent bulbs.
- Purchase Energy Star appliances. Whenever you decide to buy a new appliance, it is best to get one with an Energy Star label on it. Energy Star claims that their products can reduce energy bills by 30%.
