Yes. We repair, service, and replace AC condensers. The important question is usually whether replacing the condenser alone is actually the right move — because matching it to your existing indoor coil determines whether the repair works.
What the Condenser Does
The condenser is the outdoor unit. It contains the compressor, the condenser coil, and the outdoor fan, and its job is releasing the heat your system pulled out of the house.
When it fails, the whole system stops cooling. Refrigerant cannot complete its cycle, so no heat leaves the building regardless of how well the indoor equipment is working.
The Matching Problem
Here is the thing homeowners are rarely told: replacing only the outdoor unit is often a bad idea.
Air conditioners are rated as matched systems — a specific outdoor unit paired with a specific indoor coil. The efficiency rating on the box assumes that pairing. Install a new high-efficiency condenser against an old indoor coil and you will not get the rated performance, and in some configurations you will get poor performance.
There is also a refrigerant issue. If your existing system uses R-22, you cannot pair it with a modern R-410A condenser at all — the refrigerants and the oils are not compatible. R-410A is itself now being phased down, which affects longer-term planning on systems installed in the last fifteen years.

When Condenser-Only Replacement Makes Sense
It is legitimate when the indoor coil is relatively new and compatible, when the refrigerant type matches, and when the failure is genuinely isolated to the outdoor unit — hail damage, for instance, or a compressor failure on an otherwise young system.
In those cases it saves real money over a full system replacement.
What Fails and What It Costs
Not every condenser problem is a replacement.
Capacitors are the most common failure by far. The symptom is a unit that hums but will not start. It is an inexpensive part, and left alone it destroys the compressor trying to start against it.
Contactors pit and fail, preventing the unit from energising.
Fan motors fail, which causes the system to overheat and shut down on high pressure.
Refrigerant leaks are repairable when accessible. Refrigerant is not consumed — low charge means a leak, and adding more without finding it just delays the failure.
Compressor failure is the expensive one, and on an out-of-warranty system past twelve years it usually points toward replacement rather than repair.
We diagnose before quoting. Plenty of condensers that look dead need a part costing a fraction of what a homeowner feared.
What Kills Condensers Early
Dirty coils are the leading cause. A condenser packed with cottonwood, grass clippings, and Hill Country dust cannot reject heat, so the compressor works against elevated pressure every hour of a seven-month cooling season.
Low refrigerant is the second, because it runs the compressor hot and inadequately lubricated.
Restricted indoor airflow is the third — a clogged air filter freezes the evaporator coil, which sends liquid refrigerant back to the compressor.
All three are found during routine AC maintenance.
Installation Details That Matter
Proper clearance around the unit for airflow. A level pad. Correct line set sizing and, on any replacement, evacuating the lines to a deep vacuum before charging. Then charging by weight to specification and verifying under operating conditions.
Skipping the evacuation step leaves moisture in the system, which forms acid and shortens compressor life. It is invisible and it is common.
